Context
A SME industrial component manufacturer moved to a larger location and wanted its shop floor redesigned based on lean principles, efficiency, and workers’ ergonomics.
Solution: Utilizing the VR solution Halocline.io to create a 3D model of the shop floor and test manual assembly processes in VR to evaluate takt time and worker ergonomics.
Accomplishment
We performed the following tasks:
- Importing of 2D layout into 3D planning space
- 3D scanning of current shopfloor equipment and importing into 3D planning space
- Aligning different variants of shopfloor layouts
- Test different layouts on cycle time and present them to the client.
- Create a fly-through video from VR rendering.
Outcome
The client validated the 3D design after several simulations made directly by operational managers and workers .
Then, the client installed the shop floor based on the validated 3D design.
The value for them is that they could see the shop floor and the flow in 3D before they “hammered the design in stone”.
